『Rebel Without A Cause（邦題：理由なき反抗）』の、ディクテーション。
答え合わせです。


I don’t see （what’s） so bad about taking a little drink.
You don’t?
No, I definitely…
He’s a minor… and it looks to me like he had more than a “little drink”.
Don’t （hum）, dear.
I cut loose pretty good in my day too.
Oh, really, Frank? When was that?

Can’t you answer? What’s the matter with you, anyhow?

Well, I’d like to just explain. You see, we just （moved） here, you understand…and the kid hasn’t got any friends.
Tell him why we moved here.

You can’t （protect） me.
Do you mind if I try? Do you have to slam the door in my face? I try to get to him. What happens? Don’t I buy you everything you want? A bicycle. You get a bicycle, a car…
You buy me many things.
Not just buying! We give you love and （affection）, don’t we? Then what is it? Was it because we went to that party? You know what kind of drunken brawls those kind of parties turn into. It’s not a place for kids!
A minute ago, you said you didn’t care if he drinks.
He said a “little” drink.
You’re tearing me （apart）!
What?
You say one thing, he says another, and everybody changes back again!
That’s a fine way to （behave）!
Well, you know who he takes after.

ジミーちゃん、反抗期なんですね（苦笑）
rebelは、反逆者、反抗者、という意味。
発音は、レボゥです。
rebelliousで反抗的な、rebellionで反逆、謀反となります。
一緒に覚えてしまいましょう。
causeは、原因、理由という名詞と、～を引き起こす、～の原因となる、という動詞があります。
Rebel without a causeなので、ここでは名詞ですね。
直訳すれば、理由なき反逆者（反抗者）、ということですが、上手い邦題だと思います。
ジミーの出現は、映画界において革命的でした。
それは、これまでのアングロサクソン男性のイメージを、覆すキャラクターだったからです。
欧米において、男が人前で泣いたりごねたりするのは、あり得ません。
日本やアジアでは、それが可愛いとか、母性本能くすぐる～とか、プラスイメージになったりしますが、
男性らしさが求められるアメリカにおいては、どうしようもないloser（負け犬）のレッテルを貼られます。
日本では、昔から“男泣き”という言葉があるように、任侠の世界でも武士の世界でも、
男性が人前で涙を流すことは、ある意味、美学として描かれますが、
アングロサクソンには、そういった概念はほぼ皆無と言っても、いいと思います。
そんな中、このグダグダに泣きじゃくるジミーのキャラは、衝撃的だったわけです。
しかし、これはあくまでも、男前だから許される気がします（毒）
これを普通の人がやったら、ちょっとゆるｒｙ・・・
